It's College Kickoff week and we will be highlighting some fun facts about many of Rhode Island's colleges and universities this week to help you with planning for college. Here are some fun facts provided by Salve Regina University, a school located on the beautiful coast of Newport, RI.

Fun Fact

12 movies have been filmed in Newport, and two on Salve's campus: True Lies with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Irrational Man, a Woody Allen film starring Emma Stone.

Advice to applicants

Come visit. Salve Regina University is located on the cliff walk in Newport’s historic district. The ocean gives the campus a unique feel and students use it to their benefit, inspiring excellence while they get hands-on with their work in the environment and the community that surrounds the university.

Myth

Some students assume, because of the grandeur of Salve Regina's campus buildings, that a Salve education is out of reach financially. However, this past year 99% of applicants received merit scholarships, need-based aid or both - helping to make Salve an even better value. Ranked by Money Magazine in the top 7% Best Colleges for the Money and No. 18 in the nation’s most transformative colleges.

Popular major

Salve's largest majors are in areas such as business, the sciences, education, English communications, political science, history, and psychology. The most unique program is Cultural and Historic Preservation (CHP). The most competitive major is nursing, with guaranteed clinical placements and a defined number of seats for entering students. They look for passionate, well-prepared students (especially in the sciences) out of high school for this degree.

Something to share

At Salve, they engage students in a mission driven liberal arts education that stems from the Sisters of Mercy. It centers around the critical concerns of mercy that include topics such as the environment, non-violence, and race. Salve students not only work to reach their personal potential but continuously strive to create a world that is harmonious, just, and merciful. If you are looking to change the world, the faculty and staff hopes you will consider Salve Regina University.
