College Financial Aid: Rhode Island State Grant

Applying for the Rhode Island State Grant is easy. All you need to do is make sure you file your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by March 1and you will automatically be considered for this opportunity. While award amounts have yet to be determined for the 2012/13 academic year, in past years they have ranged from $250 to $700.

The Rhode Island State Grate is meant to help Rhode Island students and families whose resources are not enough to meet the growing costs of higher education.

Eligibility

1. You must be a Rhode Island resident and a citizen of the United States or an eligible non-citizen.
2. Your school must certify enrollment if you were offered a RI State Grant before the funds are disbursed
3. Students must have a RIHEAA (the agency that administers the grant) calculated financial need of at least $1000 to be eligible for a RI state award. Award amounts range from a minimum of $250 to a maximum of $700. Amounts increase in $50.00 increments.
4. Student must be enrolled at least half-time.
